How to create an online store using Genstore?

by GK April 23, 2018

The number of entrepreneurs joining the bandwagon of eCommerce is increasing every day. No doubt, there is a lot of money in eCommerce industry. But many ambitious entrepreneurs are unsure of how to create an online store. What made me arrive at this inference? Well, the fact is our mail-boxes are stacked up with questions such as the following:

  • How to make an online store?
  • How to set up an online store?

At the end of this article, you will have enough information to create online store using Genstore in less than 30 minutes. Let’s dive in.

Step #1: Decide on a name

Decide on a name which is not trademarked. Also, its .com address should be available. Use dot com domains only as they have better visibility. Simple names work wonders. It is suggested to add the word ‘shop’ or ‘store’ at the end of the name. If you are keen on starting your own jewelry shop, think of something like Malibu Jewelry Store, Beverley Hills Jewelry, etc.  You can use various free business name generator tools. Incorporate a keyword or two and suggestions will yield better results.

Step #2: Create an account in Genstore

A couple of decades ago, eCommerce was still in its infancy and eCommerce websites were ineffective. Many entrepreneurs use to hire web developers, request them to create eCommerce systems and subsequently upload on a server. Technology was archaic. If anything, the process of creating stores was painfully slow, expensive and outmoded.

Genstore has simplified this process. Technology stack is MEAN- MongoDB, Express JS, Angular JS and Node.js. You just need to a few things and everything else is taken care of for you.

Purchase Genstore Standard / Genstore Premium. Create your account. Enter the store name.

Step #3: Customize your Store

Your online store should now be customized. Color coordination is required. Get your logo designed by professionals / beginners on Fiverr. As an alternative, you may use free logo designing tools like Canva, Logo Maker etc.  You can set a theme for your online store. Installation of themes is simple and straightforward.

Step #4: Tweak your Settings

You need not change everything. But it would be apocalyptic if you don’t set order and shipping options, commissions against each sale, prime delivery options etc. Be careful before deciding on something extreme like Free International Shipping. You may pile up losses. Sellers acquaint themselves with the channels, revenue rates etc. So be genuine with your numbers.

Step #5: Purchase a Domain

For all intents and purposes, a professional looking store should have a professional looking domain. Free domain names do more harm than good. Free domain name holders aren’t entitled to social accountability. Moreover, advertising your store with a free domain name will be a pain. Purchase a custom domain. Please be informed that you will receive a confirmation email once you complete the purchase. By the way, the standard convention is: www. [storename].com

Step #6: Add Products

Sellers can sell either physical goods or digital goods or a combination of both on Genstore. However, once you decide on your niche, it becomes easy to go with the variant of the products. For instance, jewelry is essentially about physical goods. Whitepapers, e-books, digital magazines are digital goods. Tabloids (such as Bitcoin tabloids) can be both physical and digital. In case of physical goods, look for drop shippers. By collaborating with wholesalers and drop shippers, you can do away with unsold stock, storage costs, inventory management costs etc.

You are now required to add categories. If you are selling apparel, categories would be Women’s Fashion, Men’s Fashion, Sports & Fitness, and Novelty & More etc. Within these categories, create sub-categories. For instance, sub-categories under Women’s Fashion would be:

  • Skirts
  • Tops & Tees
  • Dance Clothing
  • Yoga leggings
  • Hoodies

Genstore lets you create innumerable categories and sub-categories.

 Step #7: Activate Payment Gateways

By default, PayPal and Stripe payment gateways are integrated into your Genstore store. It is a good business practice to let your users pay as per their choice of payment gateways. You may think of adding multiple payment processors like Authorize.net in this regard.

Step #8: Generate Policies

It is in the best interest of you and your store that you generate policies pertaining to terms and conditions, returns, payments, quality standards etc. Sellers should abide by the policies.

 Conclusion

It’s an easy task to create online store using Genstore. It’s about following the 8 steps mentioned above. If you have any doubts, feel free to drop a comment. We are happy to help you in your endeavors. Cheers!
